Christian Discussion Room

"As Christians, we are the physical image of God."
~Mark Roberts

Feel free to just talk about anything here, so we don't clog up the main page.
^_^

If you would like to create a wiki to talk about something specific, feel free to do so. Just make sure you have a link back. If you do, feel free to add it to this page. Or you could tell [*Phoenix*] the name of a page you want, and she'll make the page all pretty for you.

Tolerance, how far do we go?

2006-09-19 [Child of God]: Both you and [Cia_mar] are Americans right? So I have a question reguarding a topic that has drawn some renewed media attention lately, though is very sensitive so I ask it with the upmost respect possible;

We all know from the Bible that God will often use historical events to punish and/or shape nations right? (As seen so often when Israel turns away from God and they are conquered). Church and State debates have taken to a whole new level, and New Age is on an astronomical raise in the U.S, amoung other things. I have read many U.S theologians and ministers and such saying that the U.S is essentially a country that has, or is in the process of, turning it's back on God.

Don't get me wrong, Canada isn't innocent in the least, especially Ontario, with the whole gay-marriage controversy and such an open and lenient stance on multi-culturalsim, not to mention the prison of political correctness that seems to have over-run my country in the last few decades. But our punishment comes in spats. For example, in one year Ontario alone faced a huge West Nile epidemic, SARS, Madcow and Ecoli crisis literaly within weeks of one another, so we certainly aren't exempt from this.

However, my question is do you think that God allowed and/or caused 9/11 to teach the States, and perhaps the West as a whole, since the U.S is the powerhouse of the West in this current age, a lesson?

2006-09-20 [The Dizzy Raven]: Hmmm..God does not punish us through wrath yet He disciplines our wrongs through our parents; wrath is not His choice. Yet it is the choice of human beings, so it must have been all the evil of mankind. It says so in the Bible that God doesn't punish in wrath. That's all I have to say at the moment, but even so and no matter what, faith in God must never rest, for if it wasn't for Him we wouldn't even be alive right now.

2006-09-30 [pumpkinhead]: Well, I'm an American, too, and I think that there are several facets to any of God's actions; particularly in this case. The more people a situation effects, the more variety by which it can be interpreted. And there was definately many a person effected by 9/11. For example, I've heard it taken several ways. Of course, it was viewed by many as a judgement; but some saw beyond that and recognized how America was so dramatically brought together through it, how so many people, with only a shaken and crumbling community to turn to, decided to turn to God. In this case, it is not so much a lesson, as in one taught out of spite. It's more of a... an offer, I guess, for the people to see it as each one chooses. To see who you turn to in such extreme circumstances.
In fact, if you think about it, every generation has had its own devastating act of stunned and forced direction, the kind where everyone can distinctly remember where he was and what he was doing when he heard about it. i.e. FDR, Pearl Harbor, Lexington and Concord... (haha, OK, so the last one's a bit of a jump. But it's true: "Shot heard 'round the world"...)

Am I making the thought clear at all?

2006-09-30 [The Dizzy Raven]: Yes, extremely. *nods* That's very agreeable, pumpkin.

2006-09-30 [pumpkinhead]: Thanks :) We were actually talking about this, recently (as in, oh... 19 days ago?) in my English class. Interesting stuff..

2006-09-30 [The Dizzy Raven]: YW. That's awesome to hear... I'm getting into a class next week I think. It's called Heart of Change. It sounded interesting

2006-09-30 [Child of God]: Again, if I offended anyone I'm sorry I just wanted to know from an American perspective

2006-09-30 [pumpkinhead]: Don't worry, I doubt any offense was taken. It's a sensitive subject, to be sure, but you approached it sensitively in return, right?

2006-10-01 [The Dizzy Raven]: Everything's fine, Amanda. ^^ no worries

2006-10-18 [Vessel 4 Christ]: hey all. :D

2006-10-18 [The Dizzy Raven]: Hi! ^_^

2006-10-19 [pumpkinhead]: Hello!

2006-10-22 [The Dizzy Raven]: Hi! How are you?

2006-11-05 [The Dizzy Raven]: New Topic:
Porn Protest Wiki

What would you say if we created a protest wiki against porn? Would that be cool?

2006-11-06 [Child of God]: I would be up for it! ^-^

2006-11-06 [The Dizzy Raven]: Awesome! What do you think the wiki name should be? Any suggestions?

2006-11-06 [Child of God]: I think there should be a detailed description of why we object to porn, both the religious and non-religious aspects. (Ie. I could donate some papers I've written and read on the impacts of porn on society and such.) As for the name . . . how's about "Taking Out the Trash"?

2006-11-06 [The Dizzy Raven]: Wonderful idea, Amanda! And that's a good wiki name!

2006-11-07 [Child of God]: Are you going to have the wiki a free edit for people to add stuff or are you going to have a 'screening' process?

2006-11-08 [The Dizzy Raven]: What ever you and the others think is best. I was thinking free edit

2006-11-15 [The Dizzy Raven]: But off course with a password. lol.
